摘要: The theory of shock waves is one of wel-known difficult areas of nonlinear PDES. It has a long history since Riemann and yet is very young due to the fact there are too many basic issues to be investigated. It is still a field with many challenges in the near future. In this talk, I will survey the major progress achieved so far and discuss some of the of the challenges facing the area. 

简介：辛周平教授，博士生导师。国际著名数学家、香港中文大学数学系蒙民伟讲座教授，教育部长江奖励计划特聘教授，现任香港中文大学数学科学研究所执行所长。毕业于美国密歇根大学，曾在美国纽约大学柯朗（Courant）研究所担任教授。辛周平教授在双曲守恒律、高维激波、边界层理论、混合型方程、可压流体与不可压流体方程、数值计算和方法等方向做出了系统深入的具有重要国际影响的研究成果，在包括CPAM、Adv. Math.、CMP、ARMA等国际著名期刊上发表论文180余篇，google引用超1万2千余次，近5年 google 引用超4千次。获得荣誉包括：曾获美国 Sloan Research Fellow，在2002年国际数学家大会上做45分钟报告，在2004年的“国际华人数学家大会”上获“晨兴数学奖金奖”，教育部长江讲座教授等。辛周平教授是MAA主编，JMP 和 M2AS副主编，M3AS, SCM，《纯粹数学与应用数学》等十余种杂志的编委。2012-2016年任香港数学会会长。至今已培养40余名博士和20余名博士后，其中多人获国家级人才项目。
